ABI and the banks work in synergy with public and private entities to increasingly promote a culture of valuing the role of women within society, with projects and concrete actions aimed at the community and employees.
Women in the Bank' Charter
In 2019, the Charter 'Women in Banking: Valuing Gender Diversityon the importance of gender diversity as a key resource for the development, sustainable growth of enterprises, in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.The choice of how to implement the commitments of the 'Charter' is left to the determination of each participating bank.

ABI and the Equal Opportunities Department of the Council of Ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen their commitment to preventing violence against women and promoting financial inclusion and gender equality. The initiative aims to raise awareness on violence, including economic violence, and to promote gender equality through training and information activities on the tools available to support women's rights and opportunities.

4 October 2023A guide against economic violence
What economic violence is and how it manifests itself, how to prevent it and how to combat it. These are the points through which the guide against economic violence is developed, which the ABI has produced in conjunction with the Department for Equal Opportunities of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, in sharing with banks and consumer associations and in collaboration with FeduF.
In simple and straightforward language, the guide intends to delve into the main aspects concerning this form of violence in order to help women who suffer it and also to support citizens in understanding and recognising the phenomenon.

17 May 2024'Words of inclusion - Against economic violence/You are not alone'
'Words of inclusion - Against economic violence, you are not alone' è an initiative to prevent and combat economic gender-based violence promoted by the ABI with the Department for Equal Opportunities of the Presidency of the Council of Ministersin collaboration with the FeduF. Produced with the support of the UICI's National Speech Book Centre, the Italian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired ETS-APS also in collaboration with the as consumer associations, the initiative aims to strengthen women's awareness and economic independence and to support citizens in recognising and preventing this particular form of violence.

The First Edition of the ABI Award dedicated to the themes of "Diversity and Inclusion" kicks off. It is part of the banking world's broader commitment to diversity and inclusion policies, also in line with the objectives of the UN 2030 Agenda.
Il Premio è aperto alla partecipazione degli Associati ABI ed è a titolo gratuito.
The focus will be on bank initiatives on Diversity and Inclusion issues that have a concrete impact on territories and communities, fostering partnerships and proposing innovative solutions.
The following prize categories were established for the first edition:
1. ABI D&I Award for Inclusion and Accessibility in Financial Services
2. ABI D&I Award for Equality, Leadership and Empowerment
3. ABI D&I Prize for Preventing and Combating Economic Violence including Gender Violence
4. ABI D&I Award for Cultural Enhancement and Inclusive Communication
5. ABI D&I Award for Social Sustainability and Impact on the Territory

Reimbursement of credits to women victims of gender-based violence
Nel 2025, in occasione della Giornata internazionale per l’eliminazione della violenza contro le donne, ABI e Fabi, First Cisl, Fisac Cgil, Uilca e Unisin hanno sottoscritto un Protocollo d’intesa in favore delle donne vittime di violenza di genere che individua un insieme condiviso di iniziative, tra le quali la sospensione del rimborso della quota capitale dei mutui ipotecari e di credito ai consumatori, nei confronti delle donne inserite in percorsi certificati di protezione, che si trovino in difficoltà economica, per il periodo di durata del percorso e comunque non oltre i 18 mesi.
Freedom Microcredit
The Minister of Equal Opportunities and Family, ABI, Federcasse, Ente Nazionale per il Microcredito (ENM) and Caritas Italiana have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to encourage the granting of loans in the form of social and business microcredits to women who have suffered gender-based violence (Microcredit for Freedom).
Business microcredit will be guaranteed by the SME Guarantee Fund to the maximum extent provided by law. On the other hand, 'social' microcredit loans will be guaranteed at 100% by the Guarantee Fund for Liberty Microcredit. This fund may also contribute to lowering the APR for business and social microcredit operations.

Banks for the financial and economic autonomy of women
“Banche per l’autonomia finanziaria ed economica delle donne” è l’iniziativa aperta a tutto il mondo bancario che ABI e Federcasse hanno sviluppato per sostenere l’Alleanza “Una donna, un lavoro, un conto”, il progetto che il Corriere della Sera ha promosso anche con Confcommercio Milano, Assolombarda e i sindacati confederali di Milano, con la partnership istituzionale del Comune di Milano e il supporto di Banca d’Italia.
L’iniziativa, che si inserisce nel quadro dell’impegno per l’inclusione economica e la sostenibilità sociale promosso da ABI con le banche, ha l’obiettivo di favorire indipendenza e autodeterminazione anche rafforzando le competenze finanziarie ed economiche dei cittadini, a partire da una maggiore conoscenza del conto bancario quale strumento di pari opportunità, utile per gestire in autonomia il proprio denaro.
