The ABI in Europe
ABI's presence in Europe is geared towards contributing to the definition of the economic, political and regulatory trends that directly or indirectly determine the environment in which banks operate, promoting the stability, efficiency and innovation of the financial sector on the basis of the eight Challenges (link to page with the Challenges). Furthermore, the Association works to represent the demands of the banking world to the political and technical institutions of the Union, to the sector Authorities and to the wide audience of stakeholders operating in the European markets, in the now acquired awareness that sector legislation, rules and supervisory practices are for the most part defined at European level.
Underlining the centrality of European activity, the Association is present with an office in Brussels and a presence in Frankfurt.
In order to carry out the aforementioned activities and strengthen its influence, the ABI:
In addition to Brussels, where most of the European institutions (first and foremost, the European Commission and Parliament, the EU Council and the EESC) are based, and Frankfurt, seat of the ECB, the Association closely follows the activities conducted in Paris by the EBA and ESMA, in Basel by the Banking Supervision Board (BCBS) and in Luxembourg by the Court of Justice, the ESM and the EIB.
Through this active and widespread presence, the ABI promotes sustainable and responsible development in an open society, ensuring a constructive dialogue with institutions, regulators and the public to contribute to economic growth and confidence in the banking sector.
